Each person will need to carry their own kit, even if for a relatively short distance. We would suggest one large bag such as a rucksack, with a day bag to carry on the coach and a chair. If a further bag is required, a small bag for boots etc (clearly marked) will be allowed.
Pack in a main bag:
– Night clothes
– Wash bag, soap, toothbrush, comb, inc Towel
– Fleece or jacket
– Deodorant, sanitary requirements etc
– Waterproofs
– Walking boots or strong shoes
– Sleeping bag & roll mat
– Pillow
– Sweatshirt or jumper
– Casual trousers (e.g. tracksuit bottoms)
– T-shirts/shirts/tops
– Socks, underclothes
– Plastic bags for dirty or wet clothes
– Tea towel
– Trainers or light shoes
– Personal First aid kit
– Insect repellent
– Torch (working)
– 3 or 4 clothes pegs
– A checklist of all that’s been packed!
Optional:
– Shorts
– Folding camp chair
– Pen knife (see note below)
– Swimming gear (we will swim!)
What NOT to bring (or if they get lost or damaged it’s down to you)
– Expensive camera
– Handheld games
What to pack for summer camp in a small bag
– Water proof jacket
– Pocket money (up to £30 + €50)
– Water bottle (full)
– Reading matter
– Sun hat, sun cream
– PASSPORT
– Wear a full uniform!
– Mobile phone & charger or power bank
Tips & notes:
Even in summer it gets cold in the evening and at night. So, a fleece or jacket is needed. Unless you have a warm, ‘three season’ sleeping bag, warm nightwear is recommended as well. A woolly hat keeps the heat in at night!
We guarantee that the one item that isn’t clearly named is the item which will get mislaid.
Pen Knife: Should Scouts/Explorers wish to bring a pen knife to camp, they may. All knives bought to camp must conform to UK Legal Carry Laws. All knives must be declared at drop off at Sainsbury’s and will be collected by leaders for transport.
All personal Explorer property is the responsibility of the explorer and the leaders are not responsible for the loss or damage of personal property.
