More about us
The group was originally formed in 1936 and has always been based in Hildenborough.
The Group is a thriving youth movement within the village and is part of the community within the village. Many of the boys & girls attend the local primary and secondary schools.
All the young people come from the local community and contribute to the village events, including the Hildenborough Road races, Remembrance day service as well as organising community events like music festivals & firework celebrations.
The group is a registered charity and is totally funded by contributions from parents, from fundraising and local companies & charitable trusts.
There are four sections at the 8th Tonbridge, they are: the Beaver Scout Colony, the Cub Scout Pack, the Scout Troop and the Explorer Troop. All of the sections are fully mixed, all welcoming girls and boys from ages of 6 to 18.
The 8th Tonbridge currently has a total group membership of around one hundred people, including the leadership teams.
The leadership team are all volunteers. They have all been trained to Scout Association standards, and have all completed DBS vetting, and work tirelessly to provide a balanced programme of activities for all of the members of the group.
We also strive to enhance the scouting experience for all of our members by participating in competitions & events organised by the District, and Nights Away experiences, both locally and internationally.
As a group we camp all year (January being the Scouts most coveted camp!), participate in walking challenges, personal challenges as well as fun activities like ice skating, scuba diving & 4×4 driving.
